  • ¾ cup sour cream
  • ¾ cup heavy cream
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp espresso powder (optional)
  • 2 cups cold butter (cut into chunks)
  • 10 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • ½ cup plus 2 tablespoons heavy cream (for frosting)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Green gel food coloring
  • Golden star sprinkles
  • Holiday sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with festive decorative liners.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, vegetable oil, sour cream, heavy cream, eggs, cocoa powder, and optional espresso powder, mixing until smooth.
  3. Fill each cupcake liner about two-thirds full with your batter. Bake for 18-20 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  4. Allow the cupcakes to cool completely on a wire rack.
  5. For the frosting, beat the cold butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar while mixing on low.
  6. Stir in the vanilla and salt, then drizzle in the heavy cream until light and fluffy. Add green gel food coloring to achieve a tree shade.
  7. Once cool, swirl the green frosting on top using a piping bag.
  8. Finish with golden star sprinkles and colorful holiday sprinkles.
