Homemade Christmas Cookies

These delightful Homemade Christmas Cookies bring warmth and joy to any gathering, perfect for brightening up family gatherings or cozy nights at home.

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup peppermint candy canes, crushed (for peppermint cookies)
  • 1 cup cocoa powder (for chocolate crinkle cookies)
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger (for gingerbread men)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for gingerbread men)
  • 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and baking powder; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. Beat in the salt, vanilla extract, and eggs one at a time until everything is well combined.
  5. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. For peppermint cookies, fold in crushed candy canes; for chocolate crinkles, mix in cocoa powder; for gingerbread men, add ginger and cinnamon.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto lined baking sheets, leaving space between them.
  8. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and centers are soft.
  9. Let cookies cool slightly on sheets before transferring to a wire rack; dust with confectioners’ sugar or decorate as desired.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze for up to three months. For richer flavor, try brown butter instead of regular butter.
