Vegan Mushroom Skull Pizzas

Playful vegan mushroom skull pizzas that add fun to your Halloween celebration while satisfying pizza cravings.

Ingredients

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Zest of ½ lemon
  • 1 sprig thyme (or ½ teaspoon dried thyme)
  • 350 ml tomato puree
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1½ teaspoons chili flakes
  • 50 g white mushrooms
  • 15 g vegan cheese shreds
  • ½ green onion (only the green part)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to its highest setting, placing a pizza stone or baking steel inside.
  2. For the sauce, combine the minced garlic, lemon zest, and thyme leaves in a bowl. Mix in the tomato puree, salt, pepper, and chili flakes. Refrigerate until ready to assemble.
  3. Slice the mushrooms in half and carve faces into the caps to create spooky skulls.
  4. Roll out the pizza dough to about 32 cm in diameter and transfer to a floured pizza peel.
  5. Spread the sauce over the base, sprinkle with vegan cheese, and arrange the mushroom skulls on top.
  6. Switch the oven to broil and bake the pizza for 5-7 minutes, or 1-2 minutes in a pizza oven, until golden.
  7. Sprinkle finely sliced green onions over the top before serving.

Notes

Make it a family activity by involving kids in carving the mushroom skulls. Adjust seasoning to taste and consider using store-bought pizza dough for convenience.
