Vanilla French Beignets

Deliciously fluffy, sugar-dusted Vanilla French Beignets that are perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  4. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to about 350°F (175°C).
  5. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown on both sides, about 2 to 3 minutes each side.
  6. Using a slotted spoon, carefully remove the beignets and let them drain on paper towels.
  7. Dust the warm beignets with powdered sugar as soon as they come out of the oil.

Notes

For the lightest result, sift your flour before measuring. You can substitute half of the milk with buttermilk for a tangy twist.
