Description

A rich and hearty Italian sauce that transforms humble ingredients into a flavorful dish, perfect for pasta.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 celery stalk, diced
  • 1 pound ground beef or a mix of beef and pork
  • 1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup red wine (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat until shimmering.
  2. Add the onion, carrot, celery, and garlic, stirring frequently for about 5-7 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in the ground beef (or mix), cooking until browned, about 8-10 minutes.
  4. Mix in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, and basil, followed by salt and pepper.
  5. Pour in the red wine, if using, and let it simmer.
  6. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and allow to simmer for at least 30 minutes for optimal flavor.
  7. Finish with fresh parsley for garnish.

Notes

Avoid rushing the simmering process to achieve a fuller flavor. Consider chopping vegetables uniformly for even cooking.
