Description

A hearty rigatoni dish featuring Italian sausage, tomatoes, and garlic, perfect for a quick weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound rigatoni pasta
  • 1 pound Italian sausage, removed from casing
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for serving
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the rigatoni pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the Italian sausage. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
  3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté until the onion is translucent and fragrant.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes and Italian seasoning. Season with salt and pepper, letting it simmer for about 10 minutes to thicken.
  5. Add the cooked rigatoni to the skillet, tossing everything together to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce.
  6. Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil if desired.

Notes

For added flavor, consider adding a pinch of sugar to the sauce to balance acidity from the tomatoes.
